The 2002 Summer Tournament was held the weekend of August 31, 2002 with sixteen teams playing in an open bracket. With temperatures hovering in the high 90s for most of the day, keeping cool and rested was a definite challenge.
The Houston Hurricanes marched through the A bracket beating Storm, Most Wanted, Sleepers, and Rage.
The defending A champions Sleepers were knocked into the loser's bracket by Hurricanes and eliminated by Storm.
The Cinderella team in the B bracket was Woodlands Rage. Rage advanced through the B bracket, beating the defending B Champion Daredevils before losing to the Hurricanes. In the loser's bracket, Rage jumped to a 21-7 lead on Most Wanted by halftime. Most Wanted battled back but fell short 34-28. By the late afternoon, players on both teams began falling out due to cramping and exhaustion.
In the championship game, the Hurricanes proved too much for Rage, winning the final game by a score of 20-6 and claiming their first Texan Tournament Series championship.
